THE ART OF BREWING

We sat down with our Chief Brewing Officer, Eric Anderson, to get his insight on how he merged two art forms into one flavor packed brew.

“When Mikey, a few of his band mates and I first sat down, we all took a deep breath, smiled, and had a sip of beer to start the meeting off properly. Becoming fast friends — we talked everything from music to beer, meditation to spirituality, and rock stardom. We chatted about the the band’s upcoming single “Superstar Disaster”. We set out to create something delicious and unique that could do the name justice. Running through a little flight of the current offerings we stumbled upon AppleSaucy (Apple Ale).

Mikey was intrigued by the bubbly, light body. I remember him commenting on how that kind of thing was his jam, so we started going down the route of an apple ale — almost borderline cider. The idea popped into my head to swap out the Apple for Pear.

Within minutes we had confirmation that the Pear juice was available through special order and we got it ordered. Hot on the trail, we decided to make a combination of unexpected ingredients that happened to pair well — just missing disaster. We loved the idea of using a seasonal fruit. Blackberries were just being processed. The final touch was when we all agreed a little aroma and touch of spice, in the form of ginger, would round out the whole thing.

Everyone was in agreement right away. Everything felt right. Sometimes the best ideas come right away, sometimes we need to sit on them for a while. In this case on a sunny Cleveland afternoon, thirty minutes in, we knew we had a winner — fit for the funk-filled, soulful, and lyrical powerhouse that is Superstar Disaster.”

DESIGN + AESTHETICS

After a conversation with Mikey, the lead vocalist of Apostle Jones, our designer absorbed the band’s infectious upbeat spirit. The challenge of designing for a group of over nine individuals was made easy, thanks to Mikey’s composed disposition that harmonized with the band’s aura. Notably, Mikey performed a first by seamlessly weaving a song verse into the discussion about the band and label, a pivotal moment that ignited the conception of the spiritually-infused Rock ‘n Soul design.

The track titled “Superstar Disaster” delves into the turbulent lives led by celebrities, with a particular focus on the narrative of the infamous 27 Club. Symbolizing the trajectory of fame and fortune as a potential “death sentence,” the label draws parallel to the notion of catastrophe. The meaning of “Apostle,” rooted in the Greek term denoting a “person sent,” lends significance to the placement of skulls atop Grecian pedestals. This composition signifies death and disaster, marking the threshold to an enigmatic future for these superstars. Among the lyrics, the line “even when you die, they know who you are” encapsulates the essence of the shrine, honoring the array of celebrities mentioned in the song without singling out any individual.
